Ss Peter & Paul’s adventure begins…

Day One – Mountain Hike followed by Problem Solving

The children arrived safely and were quickly shown around the centre before engaging in their first activity; mountain hiking.  Everyone enjoyed this as it allowed them to get to know their instructor and the rest of their group.  Tea was a huge portion of fish, chips and mushy peas, followed by apple crumble and custard.

In the evening the children took part in some problem solving activities.  They worked as a team to earn pretend money to enable them to buy items to help them protect an egg from a second floor drop.  It was a fun night which resulted in three broken eggs and one successful team – the RED team.

Day Two –

Green Group – Canoeing and Gorge Walking – Mr Van Geffen’s group had an amazing day getting wet.  First off canoeing on Lake Geirionydd.  Followed by a quite impressive walk down a rain swelled gorge.

Blue Group – Rock Climbing and Abseiling – Racheal took her group with Andy to Conwy Mountain on the coast.  All children pushed themselves to their limits.  The children enjoyed the activity and their ice cream on the way back to Oaklands.

Red Group – Canoeing – Mr McNicholas and his group leader Carolyn took the children to Llanberis and Lake Padarn.  They played a number of games including Titanic and enjoyed getting really wet.

Yellow Group – Mining – Miss Cullen and her group leader Ruth took their group deep underground.  They enjoyed crossing underground lakes in Rhiw Bach slate mine.  Total darkness was experienced too.

Tea – Lasagne and Garlic Bread followed by A Huge Slab of Cheesecake with Chocolate or Strawberry Sauce.

Day Three –

Red Group – Rock Climbing and Gorge Walking – We travelled to Conwy Mountain to try our hand at rock climbing. It wasn’t as easy as it looked, we all stretched ourselves and pushed each other to keep getting higher.  After climbing we had a freezing cold dip in the Nant Ddu.

Yellow & Blue Group – Canoeing and Gorge Walking – Both groups travelled to Lake Geirionydd to have a fun time canoeing and playing lots of games: swapping boats and rocking to ‘Andy Said’.  Gorge walking tested our balance and cold endurance.

Green Group – Rock Climbing – Greens travelled to Llyn Padarn to Lion Mountain.  There they experienced the vertical rock face.  Lots managed to get to the top but all surpassed their climbing ambitions.

Tea – Jacket Potato with either Chilli-con-carne, Tuna, Cheese or Baked Beans.  This was followed by Chocolate Gateaux.

Day Four –

Red Group – Mining – Wrysgan Slate Mine was our destination.  Olivia B said “It was awesome!” The children spent a day down the mine, experiencing total darkness and sliding down grey slate.

Green & Blue Group – Rhiw Bach Slate Mine was our destination. Mr Van Geffen and Racheal took their children deep underground.  They also experienced total darkness and climbed up an underground waterfall.

Yellow Group – Abseiling and Slate Museum – Miss Cullen and ‘Big’ Andy took their group to Llanberis to try their hand at abseiling.  They also took time out of the inclement weather to visit the slate museum.

Tea – Roast Chicken Dinner followed by …
